Goals

Professional:

Plan Effectively:

  1. Make sure to plan lessons so that there is little improvisation throughout.
  2. This goal can be attained through experience, learning from my co-operating teacher, and being able to predict how my students will react to the lesson.
  3. Observer needs to hold me accountable by carefully looking over my lesson plans and be able to find details I may have overlooked.
  4. Data will be qualitative as I will need feedback according to the mistakes or oversights that I make.

Call on all students to participate in lessons:

  1. I want to make sure to engage more students than the ones who find it easy to participate.
  2. I need to make sure to wait longer than the first hand that appears when I ask a question or for participation. I need to make sure to use names and move around the classroom while I teach. I cannot make it a habit of letting one student answer every question or comment.
  3. Observer needs to carefully watch my body language, how much I move around, how long I wait between question and answer, and how many students I call on.
  4. This goal can be analyzed quantitatively. The observer can count how long I wait before I let a student answer. They can also count the number of students I call and the number of times I call on a particular student.

Pacing of lessons:

  1. I want to make sure that my lessons flow evenly throughout. Sometimes I get stuck going over an idea or a detail that does not matter as much as the place I need to get to.
  2. Plan effectively, predict my student’s behaviour and understanding, do not overlook details, and develop more classroom management skills.
  3. Observer needs to pay attention to how long I may dwell on details of a lesson and how the class seems to be handling what I am presenting to them. Sometimes the class may understand completely, while other times they may be lost fully.
  4. This can be addressed qualitatively at the end of the lesson. I just need to hear if the students seemed engaged and seemed like they understood what I was saying.

Personal:

Plan time for work:

  1. I have a bad habit of waiting until I feel like completing schoolwork. This is not to say that I don’t get it done in time but it ends up piling up and I spend a full day of the week catching up. I need to plan to do a little schoolwork every day.
  2. I need to make a schedule and stick to it. Perhaps study for 30-60 minutes each night after dinner.
  3. I need to hold myself accountable for this goal.
  4. I can analyze this by seeing the number of things I need to have done for the next week be checked off my list.

Sleep for at least 8 hours per night

  1. This goes hand-in-hand with my goal to plan time for work. I typically cut in to my sleep schedule when I am trying to complete schoolwork that needs to be done as soon as possible.
  2. I need to plan to do my schoolwork accordingly and make sure to have it done so that I can effectively get a good night sleep.
  3. I need to hold myself accountable for this goal.
  4. I can make sure to set a bed time and make sure that I sleep for 8-10 hours.

Exercise:

  1. I want to make sure that I am walking my dog for 30-45 minutes 3-4 days per week.
  2. I need to make sure that I schedule work and schoolwork accordingly so that I don’t feel like I need to drop this activity from my plans.
  3. I need to hold myself accountable for this goal.
  4. I can keep track of the amount of days that I walk my dog per week.

Digital:

Teachers and technology:

  1. I want to talk to teachers who use technology in the classroom.
  2. I need to make sure to introduce myself to teachers in the schools and ask them about the ways they use technology in their classroom. (i.e. do they use it just to lesson plan, do they teach with it, do they communicate with their students with it, etc.)
  3. I need to make sure that I put myself out there when I go to new schools in the future.
  4. I can keep track of the number of students that use technology in different ways and those who minimally use it.

Find more resources for teaching:

  1. I want to make sure to find as many resources as I can for my future career.
  2. I need to make sure to ask teachers about their top resources that they use, why they use them, and how they use them.
  3. I need to make sure to introduce myself to other teachers and ask them about the ways that they plan and the resources they use.
  4. I can keep a bank of useful resources on my computer so that I have a quick reference if I need something.

Professional internet footprint

  1. I want to make sure that everything that I am linked to online is something I am proud of or is professional.
  2. I need to find the ways that people can find me online and make sure that they are not something that could potentially hurt me.
  3. I can make sure to look for all the accounts or websites that I have been a part of are clean. I also need to make sure that anything put online about me in the future is also clean.
  4. I can keep a list of the sites that I am a part of and make sure to check them periodically.
